One of the Only Two Nationwide! NEU Adds 6 Undergraduate Programs

Recently, the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China (MOE) released the 2026 results for the filing and approval of undergraduate programs of Regular Higher Education Institutions. All 6 undergraduate programs newly applied for by NEU—Embodied AI, Vacuum Engineering and Technology, Intelligent Vehicle Engineering, Virtual Reality Technology, Remote Sensing Science and Technology, and Additive Manufacturing Engineering—were approved through MOE registration and accreditation. Among them, Embodied AI and Vacuum Engineering and Technology are among the very first batch of new programs nationwide approved for inclusion in the national catalog.

Embodied AI Program: The MOE has further improved the special mechanism for the expedited establishment of strategically urgent programs and supports 9 universities nationwide, including NEU, in establishing the new program of Embodied AI. The program closely aligns with the national strategy for future industries and precisely connects with key fields such as humanoid robots, intelligent manufacturing, deep earth and deep sea engineering, and biomedicine. It deeply integrates frontier directions including artificial intelligence (AI), automation, and robotics, aiming to cultivate high-quality innovative engineering and technical talents who master the theories and technologies of Embodied AI and possess engineering development capability and practical innovation ability.

Vacuum Engineering and Technology Program: This program closely aligns with the national strategic demand for the independent and controllable development of vacuum equipment and precisely connects with key fields such as semiconductor manufacturing, new energy, aerospace, and high-end equipment manufacturing. It deeply integrates mechanical engineering and vacuum technology and adopts a four-stage progressive training mode of "physical foundations–engineering core–intelligent measurement and control–frontier applications," aiming to cultivate high-level interdisciplinary engineering and technical talents with solid mechanical foundations, outstanding expertise in vacuum technology, and capabilities in intelligent measurement and control as well as innovation.

Intelligent Vehicle Engineering: This program aligns closely with the Strategy of Building a Leading Transportation Power and follows the electrification, intelligence, and connectivity transformation, while responding to the needs of regional industrial upgrading and development. It deeply integrates interdisciplinary technologies including Vehicle Engineering, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Electronic Information, comprehensively supporting talent supply across the whole industrial chain of Intelligent Connected Vehicles (ICV), and is committed to cultivating interdisciplinary Outstanding Engineering Talents with solid foundations in mechanical engineering, strong intelligent technology capabilities, as well as engineering practice ability and innovation literacy.

Virtual Reality Technology: This program is based on the National Digital Economy Strategy and closely follows the forefront of the virtual reality industry, aligning with key industries such as digital culture, intelligent manufacturing, and smart healthcare, while focusing on interdisciplinary fields including VR/AR, the metaverse, and digital twins, it aims to cultivate high-quality interdisciplinary technical talents who systematically master theories and core skills in information technology, digital design, and interactive development, while possessing capabilities in content creation, software development, and engineering practice, along with innovative thinking, collaboration ability, and industry vision to support digital development across multiple sectors.

Remote Sensing Science and Technology: This program closely aligns with the strategy of achieving self-reliance and self-strengthening in aerospace information technology and with the forefront of the remote sensing industry. It focuses on interdisciplinary and integrated directions such as earth observation, intelligent interpretation, spatial mapping, cultivating high-level interdisciplinary Outstanding Engineering Talents who systematically master multidisciplinary foundational theories and core technological methods in Remote Sensing Science, Surveying and Mapping Technology, Spatial Information, and Intelligent Processing, and who possess capabilities in remote sensing equipment application, data analysis and processing, and engineering practice to serve Land Governance and National Defense Construction.

Additive Manufacturing Engineering: This program is based on the national intelligent manufacturing strategy and the forefront of the additive manufacturing industry, focusing on interdisciplinary integration in areas such as material forming, laser technology, equipment systems, and intelligent control, and serving key sectors including aerospace, high-end equipment manufacturing, and medical devices. It aims to cultivate high-level interdisciplinary outstanding engineering talents who systematically master foundational theoretical knowledge and core engineering methods across multiple disciplines including mechanical engineering, materials science, digital modeling, and intelligent measurement and control, and who are capable of solving complex technical problems in the field of additive manufacturing.
