Professor Xu Dake’s Team from the School of Materials Science and Engineering, NEU Makes Significant Progress in Research on the Mechanism of Microbial Corrosion in Titanium Alloys

更新日期: 2026-10-26

Recently, the research group led by Professor Xu Dake—part of Professor Wang Fuhui’s team at the School of Materials Science and Engineering, NEU—has made significant progress in studying the mechanisms of microbial corrosion in titanium alloys. The findings were published in the internationally renowned materials journal Acta Materialia under the title “Microbial degradation of the passive films drives corrosion of Ti-6Al-4V by sulfate-reducing bacteria in seawater” (DOI: 10.1016/j.actamat. 2026.122773). This study reveals a novel mechanism by which marine sulfate-reducing bacteria induce corrosion in titanium alloys, as viewed through the evolution of passivation film defects. Li Jiahang, a doctoral student at NEU, and Professor Zhou Enze are the co-first authors, while Professor Xu Dake and Professor Zhou Enze are the co-corresponding authors. NEU is listed as the completing unit.
