Recently, the team led by Professor Zhang Xin from NEU made significant progress in frontier research in cosmology. In collaboration with relevant domestic research institutions, the team systematically studied the early dark energy model using observation data from the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI), and the Latest Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB). The study shows that JWST observations of high-redshift galaxies can provide new independent constraints on early dark energy and significantly improve the ability of such models to ease the Hubble tension.
The relevant research paper entitled "Resolving the Hubble Tension in the Early Dark Energy Framework with JWST and DESI Data" was published in September 2026 in The Astrophysical Journal Letters (ApJL), a top international journal in astronomy. Du Guohong, a doctoral student from the School of Sciences of NEU, is the first author of the paper, and Professor Zhang Xin from NEU is the corresponding author. The Liaoning Key Laboratory of Cosmology and Astrophysics, School of Sciences, NEU, is the first affiliated institution of the paper.
