Recently, the final of the Creative Track for the 12th National University Students’ Opt-Sci-Tech Competition was held at Xidian University. NEU earned one first prize, two second prizes, and four third prizes, and also received the “Outstanding Organization Award.” Teachers Sheng Hu and Xiang Li from Northeastern University at Qinhuangdao were honored as “Outstanding Instructors.”
The National University Students’ Opt-Sci-Tech Competition, hosted by the Chinese Optical Society, is a prestigious competition for university students specializing in optoelectronics-related majors in China. This year’s competition, under the theme "Optoelectronics Leads, Future Promises," featured two tracks: the Creative Track and the Optical Design Track. It attracted 4,416 teams from 470 universities nationwide. Following the regional selection in seven divisions, 186 teams from 90 universities advanced to the Creative Track finals.
The team comprising Ruohan Zhou, Weijie Tang, and Xinyi Han, mentored by Teacher Sheng Hu from Northeastern University at Qinhuangdao, won the national first prize for their project "Portable Raman Spectrometer for Detecting Heavy Metal Ions in Water Quality." The team of Liming Zhou, Yuqing Jin, and Chaofan Li, under the guidance of Teachers Ruijie Tong and Yong Zhao, secured the national second prize for their project "Integrated Monitoring System for Seawater Temperature, Salinity, and Depth Based on Specialty Optical Fibers." The team of Jianru Qiao, Zipeng Yang, and Jialin Yu, mentored by Teachers Xiaoming Chen and Ting Feng, also earned the national second prize for their project "Portable High-Throughput Dielectrophoresis Screening Device for Algal Cells in Disease Treatment." The team of Xunman Xiao, Chuang Wang, and Wei Huo, guided by Teachers Bingna Li and Xiang Li, received the national third prize for their project "Smart Polarized Eye—Infrared Camouflage Polarization Detection System." The team of Jiashuo Zhang, Gang Yang, and Haolin Yan, under the mentorship of Teachers Lu Cai and Yi Cai, won the national third prize for their project "Deep Blue Intelligent Perception—Real-Time Monitoring Platform for Marine Heavy Metals." The team of Bowei Hu, Haoran Pei, and Hualin Zhang, guided by Teacher Mingxu Ma, also took the national third prize for their project "Intelligent Field Management Machine for Lettuce Using Machine Vision." The team of Shuaihang Luo, Yi Huang, and Zhixian Li, mentored by Teacher Shuo Chen, earned the national third prize for their project "Shaoguang Technology—Rapid Pathological Diagnosis System Based on Visual Computational Spectral Imaging."
