NiuTrans system won the first prize of Qian Weichang Chinese information processing science and technology award

December 23rd, on the Awards Conference of the 2016 Chinese Information Society, NiuTrans, a machine translation system developed by the Natural Language Processing Laboratory of the School of Computer Science and Engineering, was awarded the first prize. NiuTrans system is developed by Zhu Jingbo team, and is the most comprehensive open source translation system model supported by the international academic community. The system is shared free of charge to more than 70 countries, more than 2,000 universities and business research institutions, and is known as the "Xiaoniu system" to the domestic academic community. Since 2015, NiuTrans began to support the neural machine translation model, and it officially began to provide automatic translation services this year.

Qian Weichang Chinese Information Processing Science and Technology Award is the highest in the field of Chinese information processing science and technology. It is approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology and selected every two years. The award is aimed at projects and individuals who have achieved the leading level of technology and the main technical and economic indicators, and have played an important role in promoting the progress of technology in the Chinese information processing industry and creating greater economic and social benefits.
